Beetime Privacy Policy / 개인정보 처리방침
Effective date / 시행일: 2026-11-01 · Version 1.0
English
Beetime helps parents set a screen-time schedule that locks a child's iPhone on time. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, where it is stored, how long we retain it, and what rights and choices you have.
1. Who we are
Beetime is operated by an individual residing in Alberta, Canada (service name "Beetime"). No company has been registered, so "we" in this policy means the operator of Beetime.
- Postal address: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
- Privacy contact and privacy officer: support@beetime.org
2. What we collect
Parent (guardian) account
- Your email address, for signing in and account recovery. Your password is handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see it.
- The family name you choose, your role in the family and when you joined.
Children and their devices (entered or generated by the parent)
- A child's name or nickname, as you enter it. You may enter a nickname instead of a real name.
- For each child device: a device name you choose, platform, device model, OS version, language, time zone, app version, a one-time 6-digit pairing code (valid 10 minutes), an anonymous app identifier and the push-notification token.
- Status the child's phone reports: whether Screen Time permission and notifications are on, when it last connected, and whether the latest schedule was applied.
Schedules and requests
- The weekly schedule (days, start and end times, block type, an optional name you give a block).
- Time requests from the child ("Ask to unlock") and the parent's answer, with times. The reason is chosen from a fixed list; there is no free-text box, so we do not store free-text reasons.
- A history of changes (who changed what and when), shown to parents in the activity list.
Notifications
- Push tokens of the parents' phones (Apple Push Notification service, Firebase Cloud Messaging), the phone's language and whether notifications are allowed.
Diagnostic logs (only if a parent agrees)
- Once a day, if the parent agreed on the consent screen, the parent's phone and the child's phone send a technical log so we can find and fix problems. It contains: device ID, app version, OS version, times of lock and unlock events, a schedule fingerprint and the number of blocks, permission status, and the result of push registration.
- A parent can say no, and can turn this off any time in the app menu under "Automatic diagnostics".
What we do NOT collect: screen content or screenshots, messages or call content, location, contacts, photos, web addresses visited, which apps your child opens or for how long, keystrokes, or advertising identifiers. There are no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
Our service providers may record technical data needed to operate a connection, such as IP addresses in server logs.
3. Why we use it
- To run the service: accounts, pairing a child's phone, sending the schedule to it and locking on time, and handling time requests.
- To send notifications: a child's request, or a warning that a phone has not applied a schedule or that Screen Time permission was turned off.
- To keep the service safe and working: preventing abuse (for example, guessing pairing codes) and fixing problems (diagnostic logs, only with consent).
- To answer your messages and meet legal duties.
We do not sell personal information, we do not use it for advertising or profiling, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
4. Children and parental consent
- Beetime is intended for parents. It is not directed at children, and children do not create accounts. A child's phone connects with the parent's pairing code and uses an anonymous session.
- The parent who adds a child's phone is the child's parent or legal guardian and gives consent for that phone to be managed and for the data in section 2 to be handled. We rely on the parent's account as the way to ask for and record that consent. If you are not a child's parent or legal guardian, please do not add their device.
- We collect about a child only what section 2 lists. A child's screen has a notice ("What gets recorded?") that says what is and is not collected.
- We do not show ads to children and do not sell their data. In line with the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), a parent can review, correct or delete what we hold about their child at any time (section 9).
- Phone calls and text messages stay available during locked time.
5. Service providers
We use these providers to run Beetime. They process data on our behalf and only for this purpose:
| Provider | What for | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Firebase: Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Cloud Messaging) | Sign-in, storing data, running the service, delivering Android notifications, storing diagnostic logs | Everything in section 2 |
| Apple (Apple Push Notification service) | Delivering notifications to iPhones | Push token, notification content |
We may share information if the law or a valid legal process requires it.
6. Where your data is stored, and transfers abroad
- Seoul, South Korea (asia-northeast3): the Firestore database with accounts, families, children's names, schedules, requests and activity records.
- Iowa, United States (us-central1): Cloud Functions (the programs that send notifications, apply schedule changes and receive diagnostic logs) and the storage for diagnostic logs.
- Push notifications go through Apple and Google servers, which can be in several countries.
- The operator is in Canada. Because of all this, your information is handled in South Korea, the United States and Canada, and is transferred to them over encrypted connections whenever you use Beetime. Laws there can differ from those where you live. If you use Beetime from Korea: recipient Google LLC (and Apple Inc. for notifications); country United States; items and purposes as in sections 2 and 3; kept as in section 7; you may refuse by not using the service or by deleting your account, but the service cannot work without the transfer.
7. How long we keep it
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Account, family, children's names, schedules | Until you delete your account (section 8) |
| Activity history (who changed what) | Until the family is deleted |
| Diagnostic logs | 30 days, then deleted automatically; also deleted when the family is deleted |
| After a parent disconnects a child's phone: its schedule, recorded edits and time requests | Deleted 30 days later (the 30 days let you undo a mistake) |
| Waiting-to-apply schedule edits | Deleted after 30 days |
| Parent phone push registrations | Removed when the phone has not refreshed for 90 days, or when you sign out of it |
| After an account deletion: the "released" mark on each child device (no name or other personal data) | 90 days, so a child's phone that was offline can still learn it was released; then deleted |
| Emails you send us | 1 year after we finish handling them |
8. Deleting your data
- In the app: Menu > Delete account. If other parents remain in the family, only you are removed. If you are the last parent, the family and everything in it (children, child devices, schedules, requests, activity records, logs) is deleted at once, and the children's phones are released so they no longer lock.
- By email: write to support@beetime.org from the account's email address. We answer within 10 days.
- Disconnecting one child's phone (Children tab) deletes that phone's data after 30 days.
9. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, ask us to limit how we use it, withdraw your consent (for example to diagnostic logs), and get a copy. A parent can do this for their child's information too. Use the app (section 8) or email support@beetime.org.
- Canada: Beetime follows the principles of Canada's PIPEDA and, where it applies, Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act. You can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
- South Korea: under the Personal Information Protection Act you may request access, correction, deletion and suspension of processing, and may withdraw consent. You may also contact the Personal Information Protection Commission or the KISA privacy centre (118).
- United States: parents may review and delete their child's information as described in section 4.
10. Security
Connections use HTTPS/TLS. Firebase security rules limit access: a parent can reach only their own family, a child's phone can update only its own status, and parents cannot remove each other. Free text is not stored. Only the operator can access production data. No system is completely secure. If you suspect a security problem, please notify us promptly at support@beetime.org.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app or on this page before it takes effect, and update the date at the top.
